Στην πόλη Cohrane, κοντά στο Κάλγκαρι του Καναδά, έγινε η παρουσίαση αυτής της απίστευτης τοιχογραφίας διαστάσεων 3,65m ύψος Χ 5,50m πλάτος.
Πρόκειται για ένα παζλ από 180 άλλα αυτόνομα έργα διαστάσεων 0,30cm Χ 0,30cm το καθένα, που ζωγράφισαν 180 διαφορετικοί ζωγράφοι.

Famine in East Africa

With East Africa facing its worst drought in 60 years, affecting more than 11 million people, the United Nations has declared a famine in the region for the first time in a generation. Overcrowded refugee camps in Kenya and Ethiopia are receiving some 3,000 new refugees every day, as families flee from famine-stricken and war-torn areas. The meager food and water that used to support millions in the Horn of Africa is disappearing rapidly, and families strong enough to flee for survival must travel up to a hundred miles, often on foot, hoping to make it to a refugee center, seeking food and aid. Many do not survive the trip. Officials warn that 800,000 children could die of malnutrition across the East African nations of Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Kenya. Aid agencies are frustrated by many crippling situations: the slow response of Western governments, local governments and terrorist groups blocking access, terrorist and bandit attacks, and anti-terrorism laws that restrict who the aid groups can deal with -- not to mention the massive scale of the current crisis. World War II: Conflict Spreads Around the Globe

From the last few months of 1940 through the summer of 1941, the conflicts among nations grew into true World War. The East African campaign and Western Desert campaign both began, with largely Italian and British forces battling back and forth across the deserts of Egypt and Libya and from Ethiopia to Kenya. The Tripartite Pact -- a declaration of cooperation between Germany, Italy, and Japan -- was signed in Berlin. Japanese forces occupied Vietnam, established bases in French Indochina, and continued to attack China. Mussolini ordered his forces to attack Greece, launching the Greco-Italian War and the Balkans Campaign. The Battle of Britain continued as the forces of Germany and Britain carried out bombing raids and sea attacks against each other. The United States began its lend-lease program, which would eventually ship $50 billion worth of arms and materials to to Allied nations. And an ominous new phase began as the Germans established walled ghettos in Warsaw and other Polish cities, rounding up Jews from surrounding areas and forcing them to move in. World's Most Dangerous Countries for Women

Targeted violence against females, dismal healthcare and desperate poverty make Afghanistan the world's most dangerous country in which to be born a woman, with Congo a close second due to horrific levels of rape. Pakistan, India and Somalia ranked third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the global survey of perceptions of threats ranging from domestic abuse and economic discrimination to female foeticide (the destruction of a fetus in the uterus), genital mutilation and acid attack. A survey compiled by the Thomson Reuters Foundation to mark the launch of TrustLaw Woman*, puts Afghanistan at the top of the list of the most dangerous places in the world for women. TrustLaw asked 213 gender experts from five contents to rank countries by overall perceptions of danger as well as by six categories of risk. The risks consisted of health threats, sexual violence, non-sexual violence, cultural or religious factors, lack of access to resources and trafficking. Οι συγκεντρώσεις πλέον στην Ελλάδα είναι κάτι το συνηθισμένο και δεν δίνει τόσο πολύ σημασία η εξουσία σε αυτές, αφού βρίσκει τρόπο να θάβει τα όποια μηνύματα αυτές εκφράζουν. Οι συγκεντρώσεις πρέπει πλέον να έχουν σαφέστατα μηνύματα και αυτό δε γίνεται με φωνές και πανώ. Χρειάζεται αναδιάταξη των πολιτών που μετέχουμε σε αυτές. Να δημιουργήσουμε δυο αλυσίδες πιασμένοι χέρι χέρι εκατέρωθεν των δρόμων που οδηγούν από τη βουλή, τα διάφορα κέντρα εξουσίας, Δημαρχεία και Νομαρχίες στα Δικαστήρια και έπειτα στις φυλακές σε κάθε πόλη της Ελλάδας. Βουβοί, χωρίς πανώ, και να προσκαλέσουμε στην αλυσίδα τους περαστικούς, τους γείτονες των συνοικιών, όλους τους πολίτες. Να είμαστε για μια φορά πολίτες και όχι κόσμος ή λαός των συγκεντρώσεων.  Έτσι θα περάσουμε σαφέστατο μήνυμα με σαφέστατους αποδέκτες, αυτό πρέπει να γίνει και να γίνει τώρα.

Mississippi River flooding

The Mississippi River and tributaries continue to rise, reaching record crests, and the worst may still be to come. Portions of Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas are under water, with more to come. Pressure on levees led the Army Corps of Engineers to blow up a section below Cairo, Ill, inundating 130,000 acres of farmland while saving the town. As a bulge of river water makes its way downstream, levees are stressed and rivers that empty into the Mississippi have no outlet, backing up and flooding even more land. Since the time of Trinity -- the first nuclear explosion in 1945 -- nearly 2,000 nuclear tests have been performed, with the majority taking place during the 1960s and 1970s. When the technology was new, tests were frequent and often spectacular, and led to the development of newer, more deadly weapons. But starting in the 1990s, there have been efforts to limit the future testing of nuclear weapons, including a U.S. moratorium and a U.N. comprehensive test ban treaty. As a result, testing has slowed -- though not halted -- and there are questions about the future. Who will take over for those experienced engineers who are now near retirement, and should we act as stewards with our enormous stockpiles of nuclear weapons? Fellow blogger Tom Moran from Urban Ghosts inspired this post. His excellent article on ‘Ship Graveyards: Abandoned Ships, Boats and Shipyards‘ sent me on a quest to find some incredible photographs of shipwrecks around the world.
The United Nations estimates that there are more than 3 million shipwrecks on the ocean floor [Source: Wikipedia]. These once mighty vessels, both sunken and beached, are a haunting reminder that nothing lasts forever. These beautiful ships used to rule the seas they traveled. Now they serve as a window into our past.

Tulip fields

The stunning tulip fields that look like they have been created with a giant pack of crayons... and they're a tourist attraction too

A vast patchwork of kaleidoscopic colour, Holland's tulip fields are clearly nothing to be sneezed at.
From the air it looks as though a giant toddler armed with a box of super-sized crayons has been let loose on the Dutch countryside... if the lines weren't quite so perfect.
The vibrant blues, reds, pinks and yellows sprawl as far as the eye can see in Lisse, western Netherlands, where farmers hope to make huge profits selling them to florists and supermarkets around the world.

Storms, Tornadoes Devastate the South

Powerful storms swept through the South and Midwest regions of the United States over the past several days, bringing with them heavy rainfall, flooding, hailstorms, lightning, and hundreds of devastating tornadoes. As of this morning, the death toll from the storm system has nearly reached 200 -- at least 128 of those in hard-hit Alabama. Neighborhoods have been flattened, thousands are without power across the region, and efforts to aid the trapped or injured continue in regions where many roads have become impassable. As residents work to recover what they can, they are preparing for yet another storm system predicted to pass through starting Saturday. Gathered here are images from the storm-damaged south and central U.S. over the past several days. [34 photos]

Cuba looks back - and forward

Cuba this week concluded two events, one looking back, and one - ostensibly - looking forward. The 50-year anniversary of the Bay of Pigs invasion was observed with parades and speeches. Victory in the three-day war against a covert US operation to overthrow Fidel Castro, the then-new leader of revolutionary Cuba, is celebrated every year. But 50 years on, a stagnant economy and calls for political reform from a younger generation were an undercurrent during the first party congress in 14 years. What real change will come, and when, remains to be seen. The Berlin Wall, 20 years gone

Twenty years ago, on the night of November 9, 1989, following weeks of pro-democracy protests, East German authorities suddenly opened

their border to West Germany. After 28 years as prisoners of their own country, euphoric East Germans streamed to checkpoints and rushed past bewildered guards, many falling tearfully into the arms of West Germans welcoming them on the other side. Thousands of Germans and world leaders gathered in Berlin yesterday to celebrate the "Mauerfall" - the dismantling of the Berlin Wall and German reunification - and to remember the approximately 100-200 who died attempting to cross the border over the years. Collected here are photographs both historic and recent, from the fall of the Berlin Wall. Be sure to pause on photos 12 - 15, and click them to see a fade effect from before to after. Japan's crisis: one month later

Japan is just in the beginning of the long term recovery effort from the earthquake that struck off northeastern Japan on March 11. The crisis alert level from the damage to the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant has now been raised to the highest level of impact, the same as the Chernobyl Russia incident 25 years ago. Searchers continue to look for the dead, displaced Japanese live in shelters, protests continue over use of nuclear power, Japan's economic engine may be disrupted, the massive cleanup of debris is just underway, aftershocks are feared and many continue to mourn those who were lost. The Aral Sea was once one of the largest seas of the continent. It was fed up by two powerful rivers that were later turned away by the decision of Soviet authorities. They started using water of those rivers for agriculture and just look how it dramatically changed the look of the sea, which is now a mere puddle.

Japan Earthquake: One Month Later

This morning, nearly a month after the massive 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami struck northeastern Japan, a 7.1-magnitude aftershock hit the same region, setting off tsunami advisories and rattling the nerves of a still-recovering populace. Four weeks later, the tsunami's devastation remains pronounced, with radiation fears and legal issues interfering with the clean-up. Efforts to recover bodies have intensified lately, as those affected adjust to their new reality, continuing to mourn and recover what they can -- some returning to work or school. Collected here are recent images from the quake-stricken area, as Japan copes with the ongoing effects of last month's multiple disasters. [41 photos]

The Libyan Refugee Crisis

While the world focuses on Japan for the time being, the fight in Libya between pro and anti-Gaddafi supporters continues. Gaddafi seems to be gaining the upper-hand by using heavy military equipment against the poorly equipped rebels. Caught in the cross fire are the foreign workers trying to get out. Those with rich enough governments have been airlifted to safety. Those with the wrong passport have been fleeing to refugee camps in Tunisia, hoping to go back home as soon as possible and making the most of it.
